La convocatoria para esta segunda edición ha llegado en un momento en que las circunstancias prohíben cualquier revisión drástica. He corregido uno o dos errores que aparecieron en mi aviso, y he modificado la presentación aquí y allá, indicando todos los cambios sustanciales mediante signos adjuntos a los números de sección o a sus encabezados.
Pero, por lo demás, la primera edición se reproduce sin alteraciones notables, con la excepción de referencias ocasionales al papel que han aparecido desde 1936, también a mi libro recién publicado, Métodos de relajación en Enginnering Science.
Sobre algunos de los problemas aquí considerados, ese libro, como creo, sugiere una mejor línea de ataque. No he intentado combinar los nuevos métodos con los antiguos, pero he considerado apropiado referirme a ellos donde salen.
