Mi objetivo al escribir Organic Chemistry fue crear un texto que mostrara a los estudiantes la belleza y la lógica de la química orgánica al darles un libro que usarían. Este texto se basa en notas de conferencias y folletos que se desarrollaron en mis propios cursos de química orgánica durante mi carrera docente de 30 años. He seguido dos principios rectores: utilizar aplicaciones relevantes e interesantes para ilustrar fenómenos químicos y presentar el material de forma amigable para los estudiantes utilizando listas con viñetas, problemas resueltos e ilustraciones y resúmenes extensos.
